Kim is running to raise money for Parkinsons UK

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I’m taking part in Time to Run from 1 March for Parkinson’s UK. I’ll be running 50 miles in 50 days to celebrate my Parkinson’s hero Brian and to raise vital funds.

My close friend Brian was diagnosed 12 years ago in his early 50s and despite being in frequent pain he never grumbles or complains. Brian and his wife Tracy have been dear friends for over 25 years and have been there for me and my family through many trials and tribulations.  I am running to show them my support and to help raise vital funds for research.

Together we can celebrate all the incredible people out there who are helping to transform Parkinson’s which also includes our volunteers who do a fantastic job supporting people and running local groups and activities.

Please help by sponsoring me whatever you can. All the money raised will directly fund the Parkinson's UK Virtual Biotech, the drug discovery and development arm of Parkinson's UK. This will help us fast track the most promising scientific discoveries and treatments for Parkinson's.

Thank you very much. I am so grateful for all your support and will try my best!

Michael Robotham’s The Suspect - on ITV from August 2022

The Suspect (novel by Michael Robotham) tells the story of Doctor Joe O'Loughlin, a clinical psychologist who is living with early onset Parkinson's. The production team for the series approached Parkinson’s UK for information and support on portraying the condition in the 5-part thriller

Parkinson's UK put them in touch with Drew Hallam, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2018 aged 35. Drew kindly volunteered his time to guide the team including Aidan Turner, who's also starred in Poldark and The Hobbit, to portray the condition accurately.

Anyone can get Parkinson’s, young or old. Aidan’s character in The Suspect will raise awareness of the condition, and fight the common misconception that it only affects older people.

Kim's update: Time to Run - 50 miles in 50 days - for Parkinson's UK

Saturday 26th March 2022: Day 26 - 39 miles done!

Yay! I've reached day 26 out of the 50 day event (till 19 April) and I've completed 39 miles.

I achieved my first run over 4 miles this week but did ache a bit that night. My ankle is much better, still a bit bruised but I'm able to run much better. The weather has been great this week and the moon and stars beautiful.

Thank you so much everyone for your continued support x

Kim's Update: 51 miles and only on day 36!

Time to Run 50 miles in 50 days for Parkinson's UK

I've done a 3 mile run tonight and reached my 50 miles target so really pleased. Hooray!

I've had an injury free week and the weather has been generally good.

Thank you so much for sponsoring me and all the lovely messages I've received. It's all going to a great cause! The event finishes in 2 weeks on 19 April so I'll keep running and adding a few more miles to my total. Thanks again!

Update from Kim: Day 50 - I did 65 miles in 50 days!

Hi everyone

I did it! Am so thrilled that I managed to complete 65 miles in 50 days and to smash the 50 miles target.

I wanted to end on a high so last night I did my first ever 5 mile run and thankfully I wasn't aching too much today. Don cycled alongside me which was lovely company.

It's been a 16 week journey from doing the 'Couch to 5k' training for 9 weeks and then the 'Time to Run' event for 7 weeks from 1 March-19 April and I'm determined to keep running.

I am so grateful to all of you for your support.

I'm up to £1100 incl. gift aid, all going to a very worthy cause.

Also, a big well done to my 'South Central Scampers' team colleagues Anita, Gill and Kay.

We did it!!

With love and grateful thanks Kim xxx

A Pilgrimage on Two Wheels

Revd Marcus Collie, vicar of Midhurst and Rector of All Hallows, Woolbeding, has completed an extraordinary five‑day motorbike pilgrimage, praying in 100 churches across Sussex and raising vital funds for Ride + Stride and the Sussex Historic Churches Trust.

Starting on Monday 24 August at the 12th‑century parish church of St Mary’s in Rye, Marcus rode his Suzuki V‑Strom east to west, finishing at Chichester Cathedral after visiting a century of historic churches in just five days. The journey took him through towns and villages across the Diocese of Chichester, pausing at churches that have long been at the heart of local community life and in many cases, beneficiaries of the Trust’s grants for repairs and restoration.

Marcus undertook the pilgrimage under the banner of Ride + Stride, our annual event that encourages people to travel by bike, foot, or other human power to visit churches and raise money for their upkeep. Nationally, Ride + Stride raises more than £1.5 million each year, with funds split 50:50 between participating churches and their county Historic Churches Trust. In Sussex, that money supports everything from urgent roof repairs and bell restoration to conservation work that keeps these buildings open and usable for worship, events, and community activities.

By choosing an ambitious, high‑profile challenge, Marcus has helped draw attention to the importance of these historic buildings and the ongoing need for support. His ride also ties directly into the Trust’s work: many of the 100 churches he visited have previously received grants for vital repairs, making his pilgrimage a rolling celebration of the very projects Ride + Stride helps to fund.

Marcus, who became vicar of Midhurst and Rector of All Hallows, Woolbeding in 2023, is no stranger to creative fundraising. After breaking his foot in 2024, he organised a “Ride and Hobble”, leading a group of parishioners who use mobility aids on a gentle route through Midhurst, finishing with refreshments in church. This year, he swapped walking aids for a motorbike, but kept the same spirit of community, prayer, and practical support for local churches.

Kim & I can totally get behind doing a motorcycle pilgrimage. Back in 2016 (10 years ago!) we did the Camino de Santiago on my last bike - Holly the Honda Crosstourer. A wonderful way to travel the pilgrims path - especially if you really cannot allocate the time. We would one day like to walk the Camino de Santiago - but you really need to allow a minimum of 6 weeks. With Kim's work for Parkinsons' UK & me running Donline - sadly that's just not possible. Perhaps when we retire? God willing...
