Poppy Appeal: Rethink Remembrance.

There’s a new generation of veterans that need your support.
This year, The Royal British Legion is asking the nation to Rethink Remembrance by recognising the sacrifices made not just by the Armed Forces of the past, but by today’s generation too.
For many people, Remembrance is associated with the fallen of the First and Second World Wars. While we will always remember them, the Legion wants to raise awareness of a new generation of veterans and Service personnel that need our support.

Urgent prayer request for Asia Bibi

Asia Bibi an innocent Christian mother of 5 caught up in the unjust and unequal society of Pakistan, has been given a historical death sentence (by hanging) from the Sheikhupura Court of Pakistan. Her crime?  Simply under provocation she said:  "My Jesus died for me what has Muhammed done for you?" For this she was beaten, raped and placed in jail.  Why was she provoked?  Because she drank then She offered water to fellow female co-workers, from a cup that was specifically for Muslims only.  Her colleagues felt that she was untouchable (ritually impure) and had rose above her station.  She was beaten and raped and her daughters were sexually molested yet only Asia Bibi has been incarcerated?  The malevolent Blasphemy Law of Pakistan is a constant threat to people from minority faiths residing there.

Please be aware of this case. Pray for freedom and safety for Asia, her family, & the persecuted Church worldwide.

Perhaps we ought to reconsider the aid given to Pakistan?

Blue screen of death with a support number? Beware the malware scam

A new tech support scam displays a fake blue screen of death (BSoD) in an effort to trick users into installing malware on their Windows computers.
In this particular case, Hicurdismos masquerades as Microsoft Security Essentials, the anti-malware product that came pre-installed on all machines with Windows 7 and earlier.

The timing of this project, hot off the back of similar biopic epics 'Senna' and 'Rush' in recent years, is perfect, with this year and next marking the 40th anniversaries of Sheene’s two premier class world championships.

Reading for today: on God's guidance

The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.
Isaiah 58:11, NLT

Though the Bible never uses the word guidance, it does speak of a Guide. We may seek guidance, but God provides something better—himself.

Many of us struggle to understand and discern God’s guidance for our lives. We ask questions like: Should I marry or not? Should I marry this person or that person? Should I have another child? Should I join this church or that one? Which profession should I follow? What job should I take? Is my present line of work the one to stay in? Herein lies the major distortion of knowing and doing God’s will. Does God lead and direct in these areas? Yes. Does he come out and overtly tell us what to do? Rarely.

So how does God guide us? Consider these principles:

God’s guidance concerns itself more with our steps than our overall journey.
God’s guidance is more preoccupied with the present than with the future.
God’s guidance has less to do with geography and more to do with morality.
God’s guidance is more interested in our character than our comfort.
God’s guidance is not insider information.
God’s guidance is that we pursue the Guide more than guidance.

In seeking God, his plan will be revealed. His way will lead back through his Word. If the step is more critical than the journey, and the present is of greater consequence than the future, and the Guide more essential than the guidance, what is needed? We need to know the right step to take. We need to know what we must do in the present. We need to know the Guide. God does not guide us magically; he guides us relationally. Therefore, the Bible must be studied so we may become acquainted with the ways and thoughts of God. God’s aim is that we become his companions who walk with him. He already knows us. Now he wants us to understand and know him. The more we understand him, the more real our relationship will be with him and the more likely we are to keep in step with him in the direction he is taking us.

No One Is Buying Smartwatches Anymore

Remember how smartwatches were supposed to be the next big thing? About that...
The market intelligence firm IDC reported on Monday that smartwatch shipments are down 51.6 percent year-over-year for the third quarter of 2016. This is bad news for all smartwatch vendors (except maybe Garmin), but it’s especially bad for Apple, which saw shipments drop 71.6 percent, according to the IDC report.

Curta calculator: The mechanical marvel born in a Nazi death camp

If you've ever spent time thumbing through back issues of magazines like Scientific American or New Scientist, you may have seen adverts for the Curta – a strange little device that resembles a pepper mill. It cost a shocking amount of money and was claimed to perform all sorts of arithmetic functions purely mechanically and with incredible precision. Rather than being a scam in the order of upmarket X-ray specs, the Curta lives up to the claims and the story behind its creation has its roots in a Nazi death camp.

Fujitsu to cut up to 1,800 jobs in UK

Japanese electronics firm Fujitsu has told staff of plans to cut up to 1,800 jobs in the UK.
The plan, which could see the first workers leaving in early 2017, is not linked to Brexit, the company said.
Fujitsu, which has 14,000 UK staff, said the job losses would be across its UK offices as it looks to compete better with foreign rivals that offer IT services more cheaply.
Trade unions called the cuts a "hammer blow" to Fujitsu's UK workforce.
The firm has a range of businesses in the UK, from software services to providing air conditioning units.
It has many offices across the country, including in Manchester, Belfast, Crewe, Bracknell, Solihull, Wakefield and Warrington, but has not decided yet where jobs will be cut.

Fujitsu ponders selling off PC business to Lenovo

Could Lenovo be about to take over Fujitsu PC production?

Rumours suggest that a deal is underway at Fujitsu to hand over control of their PC division to Lenovo Group, in an attempt to re-focus their efforts on other IT services.
Fujitsu has been quick to point out that no official statement has been made on a potential buyout, however, according to a Reuters report a source with “direct knowledge of the talks” has confirmed the deal is underway.
In a statement, Fujitsu said: “In February of this year, Fujitsu split off its PC business and is currently considering various possibilities, including what is being reported, but a decision has not yet been made.”

But in an unexpected twist, the reusable launch stage also survived and landed safely for the fifth time after a brief journey into space.

The Supremacy of the Son of God - from St Paul's letter to the Colossians

Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.
He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation,
for through him God created everything
in the heavenly realms and on earth.
He made the things we can see
and the things we can’t see—
such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world.
Everything was created through him and for him.
He existed before anything else,
and he holds all creation together.
Christ is also the head of the church,
    which is his body.
He is the beginning,
supreme over all who rise from the dead.
So he is first in everything.
For God in all his fullness
was pleased to live in Christ,
and through him God reconciled
everything to himself.
He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth
by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.

Attack allows Mac malware to piggyback on your webcam, while it's in use

A new attack allows Mac malware to record video and audio whenever a victim legitimately turns on their webcam, without drawing attention to itself.
Now it's no surprise that malware would leverage webcams in an attempt to spy on OS X users. A victim could blurt out personal information which attackers could use for identity theft, or peeping toms could secretly record footage with the intention of blackmailing the unwitting victim.
That explains why some of the recent malware samples for OS X, including Eleanor and Mokes, come equipped with the ability to record video and audio content from infected computers.
