Say hello to our new family member: puppy Theo!

Meet our beautiful new puppy Theodore (the name means "a gift from God") - we call him Theo 💘.

He's a Greek rescue from Sue Deeth in Zakynthos. Her rescue charity Healing Paws Animal Rescue - is now rebranded as the Alan Graves Foundation Animal Rescue (Greece). Alan Graves is a Professional Boxer (WBF Middleweight World Champion) and wonderful philanthropist who has recently partnered with Sue & her team - generously providing much needed funds to build a new shelter.

Theo is a Kokoni mix & is absolutely adorable! He is 5 months old & currently weighs about 6Kg - Sue recons that he'll stay small. He loves his nosh, is doing really well on house training & sleeps most of the way through the night - excellent going so far!

He spent most of last week being driven (with several more rescue dogs & cats) across Europe by the amazing Peter of My Pet Transporter. We were able to follow Theo's progress online & were so excited to welcome him on Friday 12th September!

Theo is our third rescue pup - first was Poppy, then Calli. They've all been such precious souls & wonderful family members. If you are considering bringing a furry friend into your home & family, PLEASE consider rehoming / adopting.

How's Theo doing - I hear you ask...

Our dear little Theo is loving life, thanks for asking! This is a picture of him just before everyone turned up for a family BBQ yesterday. He's been with us now for just under a year, and is believed to have been born mid April 2025 - so will be 1 1/2 years old next month. His health is good, weighs about 10.5Kg. He's got a good spread from the gene pool, but we believe there is a sizable dollop of Kokoni in there. Theo loves his grub & is happy to eat just about anything - Greek rescues are famously non-fussy eaters. Loves his home & walks in Denmead. Really loves going to the (any) pub! Loves other dogs & cats (though the felines generally aren't too sure about it LOL). Also really good with kids including the grandsons.

Puppy post: Theo is recovering well from "the snip"

Dear little theo had "the operation" on Thursday 9th April. Many thanks to Downland Vets - for the excellent care they provided!

He's a little trooper - recovering really well already. When we picked him up on Thursday afternoon - he was still zonked from the GA they gave him. Friday he was up and about. No more cone of shame - he's got this really funky blue body suit! Get well soon buddy x

Theo update - he's doing great!

Little Theo arrived with us on Friday 12th September & he's settled in really well!

He loves his food - got a great appetite! Enjoys playing rough & tumble with our Rosie's doggie Luna. Pretty much house-trained. Booked in for puppy training course - starting next week. Loves his garden - especially eating daddy longlegs of an evening - yuk! Now used to walking on a lead around the lovely paths of Denmead.

Definitely living up to his name of Theodore (a gift from God) - most of the time at least! Well he is a puppy!

If you are considering bringing a furry friend into your home & family, PLEASE consider rehoming / adopting.

Happy New year - welcome to 2026!

Question: What sort of New Year’s resolution should a Christian make?

Answer: The practice of making New Year’s resolutions goes back over 3,000 years to the ancient Babylonians. There is just something about the start of a new year that gives us the feeling of a fresh start and a new beginning. In reality, there is no difference between December 31 and January 1. Nothing mystical occurs at midnight on December 31. The Bible does not speak for or against the concept of New Year’s resolutions. However, if a Christian determines to make a New Year’s resolution, what kind of resolution should he or she make? READ MORE HERE...

On this New Year’s morning, we rest in gratitude for your presence, dear Lord, and how you guided us through the old year. Thank You for the blessings of loved ones, the joy of Christmas, and the gift of a new day as we step into a new season.
Strengthen our hearts by your Holy Spirit, renewing us with hope and peace. Help us reflect on the past with humility and embrace the future with faith, trusting in your plans for the year ahead. May we carry Your light into each moment, sharing your love with those around us.

With Love & Blessings for 2026:
Don, Kim & Theo x

Your pet dog, even the chihuahua, may still carry wolf genes

Most pet dogs carry a little wolf inside them; tiny snippets of wolf DNA that slipped into dog genomes after domestication. A new study, published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, has found that almost two-thirds of dog breeds have a small amount of wolf genes, which may have provided them with unique advantages to survive in diverse human environments.

“Our findings definitely show how low levels of gene flow between dogs and wolves have contributed to what dogs are today, regardless of where the dogs are from,” the lead author of the study, Audrey Lin, told New Atlas via email.

Previous studies have shown that modern dogs evolved through the interaction between the now extinct gray wolves and humans during the Late Pleistocene. Since this ancestral split, the genetic flow between the two is rare, even though wolves and dogs can interbreed and produce fertile offspring.

Well as you can clearly see - those wolf genes are really to the fore in little Theodore ðŸ˜œ. The "hunter killer instinct" does come out when Theo sees pigeons or squirrels - not that he's ever gotten close to one LOL!
