Wintershall is BACK - The Passion of Jesus in Trafalgar Square

Wintershall, a renowned Christian theatre company, is set to bring the powerful and moving story of the Passion of Jesus to life in Trafalgar Square, London, on April 18, 2025. The annual open-air performance, which has captivated thousands of people since 2010, will take place on the iconic square in the heart of London, offering a profound and immersive experience for audiences from all walks of life.

The event will include a series of live scenes, including the Last Supper, Jesus’ trial before Pilate, His journey through the streets of Jerusalem, the crucifixion, and the resurrection. The cast will be complemented by a moving musical score, bringing an added layer of emotional depth to the presentation.

Worshippers to tell Easter story on streets of Havant

A 30-strong cast will dramatise the story of Jesus’s final days on Earth, including his trial, death and resurrection, on a stage set up in the town centre. They’ve been drawn from churches of all denominations from around Havant and Leigh Park.

They’ll attract shoppers and passers-by to stop and watch their 30-minute performance, which will be staged three times on March 30 and once on Easter Sunday 2024. It’s designed to help them understand more about why Jesus died and rose again and what difference it can make to their lives.

It’s the fourth such play that the Havant Passion Play group has staged, after previous performances in Havant Park in 2015, 2017 and 2019. It’s also the fourth play directed by James Burke-Dunsmore, who portrayed Jesus for years in The Life of Christ in Wintershall, near Guildford, and in Trafalgar Square each Good Friday. He has led rehearsals in which cast members are encouraged to think about the emotions felt by their characters as they react to Jesus's words and actions.

Wintershall - The Passion of Jesus - livestream on Facebook

Wintershall: The Passion of Jesus and One Good Friday story will be available online on Good Friday the 10th of April 2020 because we cannot perform live in Trafalgar Square.

We will livestream through our Facebook page at 12 and 3pm. You do not have to be a Facebook member to see it, it is open to everyone. It includes pre-recorded clips of rehearsals from our Passion Play 2020, clips and interviews from the other cities and towns taking part in the One Good Friday 2020 project.

We hope that we can all come together to share this story of hope, join us online for this extra special viewing of the Passion of Jesus.

We will return to Trafalgar Square on the 2nd of April 2021 and many of the One Good Friday locations have already agreed to perform on the same day in their towns and cities. After the livestream, the recording will be available on YouTube through our Passion page under Media Gallery.

Wintershall Estate: wonderful Easter plays in London & Guildford

The Wintershall plays are performed to over 35,000 people a year.  They were written by Peter Hutley (and originally produced by him) and have been performed since 1989.

The Life of Christ is performed every June at Wintershall with a cast of over 100, attracting thousands of people, many of them school children. The Nativity is performed at Wintershall in and around Holly Barn attracting 6,000 visitors each December. It featured on the BBC’s Songs of Praise in 1996 and again in 2004. In 2013, the Nativity was performed in the BBC’s Broadcasting House Piazza in London to critical acclaim.

In 2010, Wintershall brought the Passion of Jesus play to Trafalgar Square as a gift to the people of London. This has been performed ever since, with two performances on each Good Friday and an estimated audience of 20,000 each year. On Easter Saturday, there are two further performances in Guildford town centre.

This year the Easter events are:

On 30th March 2018 (Good Friday) watch the Easter story in central Trafalgar Square, London. No tickets are required. There is a performance at 12 noon and 3:15 pm.

On 31st March 2018 (Easter Saturday) the Wintershall cast of players and animals moves to the High Street in Guildford, in their home county of Surrey. No tickets are required. The play begins at the junction of High Street and Quarry Street at 12 noon and again at 2:30 pm.

Havant Passion Play Limited (Charity number 1154040) invites you to join us in Havant Park for our production of "Jesus in the Park".

This is our second Passion Play, the first was in Havant Park in August 2015, where we played to about 1500 people over the two days. This year we are hoping for even bigger crowds, so we are putting on this exciting new play, three times during the weekend.

James Burke-Dunsmore, who is our writer, producer, director and lead actor, is well known for taking the role of Jesus in 'The Life of Christ' on the Wintershall Estate and in London's Trafalgar Square on Good Friday.

Entry to "Jesus in the Park' is free, but do remember to bring a rug or garden chairs to sit on, as they will not be provided by us!

Light refreshments will be on sale before and after the performances, and you may like to purchase one of our First Edition Recipes Books!

On Good Friday 20,000 people gather to watch the Easter story in central London.

Supported by the Mayor of London, one hundred Wintershall players bring their electric and moving portrayal of the final days of Jesus to this iconic location in the capital.

The 90-minute production is completely free of charge - a gift to Londoners and visitors.

No tickets are required. There is a performance at 12 noon and 3:15 pm. The production is open air with visibility maximised using large screens. There is a realistic interpretation of the crucifixion so parental guidance is advised. British sign language interpretation is provided.
